Top 5 Reasons Why You Should Recruit a Student-Athlete

by Jessica Palm | Jan 18, 2016

Knowing intern season in Kansas City is quickly approaching and soon-to-be grads will start applying for full-time jobs, we asked our friends at Kansas Athletics to offer insight on why student-athletes make great employees:

KU Athletics Voluntters

  1. They are goal oriented

Before every season begins, goals are made and standards are set. Student-Athletes view every day as an opportunity to improve. Like in any business, goals are essential to peak performance in all disciplines. Student-athletes understand how to set and go after goals.

  2. They are service minded

On top of responsibilities that come with practices, travel and academics, student-athletes actively act as ambassadors for their communities. For example, Jayhawk student-athletes logged 1,042 hours of community service from September 2015-December 2015.

  3. They are competitive

A triple overtime win, a tournament victory, a trip to the final four, Big 12 Championship game appearance, a national championship. No, this isn’t just talking about basketball, these are accolades from all of our sports which means all of our student-athletes know how to compete. This competitive nature transfers perfectly into any career.

  4. Work well in teams

Student-athletes come from different countries and states. We pride ourselves on our student-athletes working together from diverse backgrounds to be successful and accomplish goals together as one team.

  5. They are leaders
Student-athletes receive leadership training on and off the field from coaches, mentors and peers. By emphasizing development in areas besides athletics, student-athletes are better equipped to encounter life’s challenges, and well aligned to succeed on the playing field and beyond.
