Global Design Thrives in Kansas City

by Addie Linn | Aug 01, 2017

A city well known for world class barbecue and fountains, Kansas City is also home to one of the top five largest concentrations of architecture and engineering employment in the U.S. In recent years, while the national growth rate in architecture and engineering services has only increased three percent, the KC region has seen a 23 percent increase.

Kansas City consistently outranks other Midwest metropolitan areas when it comes to top performing design firms. In 2017, Kansas City was home to seven of the top 100 firms on Engineering News Record’s Top 500 Design Firms list. This puts KC ahead of Chicago, Minneapolis, Omaha, St. Louis, Nashville and Columbus, Ohio.

Year after year, KC based firms get high rankings based on revenue, projects and growth. The OneKC region is home to globally-recognized Burns & McDonnell, Black & Veatch, JE Dunn Construction and many more.
